A Labour Day is an annual holiday celebrated all over the world that resulted from efforts of the labour union movement, to celebrate the economic and social achievements of workers.

The celebration of Labour Day began in 1882 and has its origins in the eight hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.

Hey did you notice that they employers are now asking you to work more than eight hours a day. If you don’t they kind of look down on you.  They need to be reminded of why labor day was created.

Have a happy and safe Labor Day weekend.

Some people think turkeys are stupid, if they read this story they will think the opposite.

This is a true story.

“A lady and her husband were surprised to see two wild turkeys walk out onto a busy two lane country road and spread out their wings. One turkey faced oncoming traffic in one direction, the other faced oncoming traffic in the other direction. Confused drivers came to a halt. Everyone waited to see what would happen. Suddenly out of the trees came a whole family – mom, and six or seven baby turkeys The turkey family paraded across the highway in single file. When they had all reached the other side, the two “traffic guard” turkeys lowered their wings and followed them into the brush. Traffic resumed. “

We live in a city where the wild animals are just rare.  The buildings and concrete rule. One day I was going to work, I was driving up the hill to work it, was about 6:30 in the AM and this wild turkey come running down the slop.  It comes to the edge and I realize that  we are going to collide  if that turkey did not spread it’s wings and fly.  I don’t know what happen I was kind of a fool and closed my eyes in horror.  The next thing I know that I look in my rare view mirror a few seconds later and they turkey is gone. That was one magical turkey.

Today is the first day on school for Chee.  The long anticipated day has arrived.  The preparation for the perfect outfit for the first day of school took a couple of days of trying on everything in her closet and some of mine too.  Although I did question what the heck do want to wear my large clothes for. The answer to that question was because they are comfortable. Well I have to agree with her on that.
This co-worker I used to work with was really slender.  She told me that she buys large underwear that is two sizes larger than what she would normally wear.  The rest of the clothes she wore were tighter fitting.
I just love wearing cotton pants with lots of room.  Sweat pants are so comfortable, Roomy shirts are the bomb, but none of these clothes are becoming, in the public eyes you kind of look dumpy and poor especially walking the streets of Walnut Creek. I am always looking for that happy medium-“ look classy and be comfortable.”
We went to a Memorial this weekend. A neighbor from our childhood neighborhood passed away.  She was a dresser.  Everything had to match even her jewelry and her clothes had to be perfectly pressed.  (Her jewelry was not fake).  She was known for being a classy woman.
On Sunday I had some time to kill, I walked into Macy’s and said I am going to find a classy outfit.  I search the whole women’s department and came up with a couple of things.  I went into the dressing room the try them on.  The first outfit I put on I could not get off.  I had to call Big Sis on her cell phone to come and help me take it off.  While I sat and waited for her I though what in the heck am I doing?  Needless to say I left the store with nothing, but the same old thought, life is too short to walk around with uncomfortable clothes. We as a society put a lot of emphasis on the clothes we wear, but does the clothes make the person?
By the way I don’t like the new fall line of fashion for women. Men’s fashion always stays the same.

I heard today about the Worlds Eating championship winner.  Big Sis once coaxed me into watching the contest, which was a group of people lined up across a long table.  They start the contest and these people just inhale the food. The food is dripping down their faces oozing out of their fingers.  It is gross and made me want to lose my dinner. I cannot watch it.
Here is my beef on the situation.
We have people in the world who are seriously starving, and here it is televised, people eating large quantities of food and most of the contestant, just end up puking.
Oh but wait, it does not stop there, we have a large population of women and men who are bulimic.  They are literally attempting to look like starving people in these third world countries and some in this country too who are just don’t have enough money for food.
Ok, I step off the soap box. It was just one of those random gripes

The town I live in had a big beautiful Target.  A one-stop shop for most of your needs.  Their prices are reasonable and the selection is great!  We have a newer Target that I consider the best of the entire Target stores, I have visited.
In the beginning of summer our Target decided to make changes and add a larger food section.  That is what one of the employees told me.  That is good I thought, I like shopping of food too.
Today, I went into Target and within a week and a half they have changed.  They switched around all the departments, added new displays and new racks for their clothes.  When I saw their new décor I was really angry, while it looks good to Target it is ugly to me.  The décor is cold and so linear.  It is so uninviting.  I have seen this same display at other Targets and used to count my blessing that we had a more circular and welcoming structure.
This reminds me of the Borg’s from Star Trek.  The Borg’s are all the same and they are connected to the main Queen Borg.   Target has adapted to that same concept and I bet they will hang a huge sign outside the Entrance with the motto “Resistance Is Futile.”

I guess change is hard for me…

I changed positions at work and am learning some new ropes on a really dumb company owned software.  So, I have been soft in the brain and slacking off on the blog.
Friday is here, yahoo.
What great plans are in the working for you?  Most weekends I just like to not plan anything and just go with the flow.  At late everything has been really intense, so it is nice not to have major plans on the weekend.
I’m always amazed at the younger group of people that work in the office.  Everyday after work is a party time.  They always come back the next day and cry about how tired they are and how much they drank or partied. They walk around in the thick flog and by afternoon around 3 pm it lifts and they are ready to do again.  For them the weekend is a 24 hour social extravaganza.. I am so happy not to be young in this generation.  It seems so fast pace and really harsh on the body.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Weird Wednesday

Love motel for dogs
A love motel in Soa Paulo has opened for amorous dogs. The love motel offers decorated rooms for dogs of pet owners who are concerned for their animal’s needs.
Robson Marinho, owner of a pet shop, built the air-conditioned room on the second floor and hung a sign that reeds “Pet Love Motel”.

The rooms in the motel, at Barra Funda, are decorated in the same way as love motels for humans, with satin sheets, ceiling heart-shaped mirrors, special control panel to dim the lights, romantic music and lots of cushions. Even the windows have thick curtains for timid dogs that want discretion.

Marinho said: “I am absolutely certain this is the first love motel for dogs in the world”

“The owner has to know what kind of DVD will excite his or her dog. We also have a wedding agency that matches up dogs and if the female dog doesn’t get pregnant, we offer artificial insemination services”.

Marinho has already received some reservations for the room. A love room for your dogs costs $41 for two hours.

This is a real humdinger…

This whole weekend I have been craving a big restaurant breakfast. But, I stayed home and ate sensible stuff. I found this quiz with the help of Chee and thought it would be fun to take. Who would of thought I would end up as eggs. But then I always order eggs and bacon and pancakes when we go out.

***You Are Eggs***

Traditional and totally grown up, you truly believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
You don’t skimp on nutrition or quality. You’re likely to take the time to make yourself a decent meal each morning.
You’re a great cook, even if you aren’t a showy one. You can make a feast out of simple ingredients.
The food you eat may be basic, but you prefer to think of it as classic.

May be today Pooper, I mean Piper and I will be friends.  Yesterday was a hard day for potty training.  Some days she gets it and others it is so foreign.  At my Mom’s house her dog, Sammy (Piper’s sister) got the potty training after a few weeks.  She is a model dog for asking to go out to do her business.  I am totally jealous.

Happy Friday.
